ADOPTABLE DOG OF THE WEEK
Riviera Maya Insider is working together with Playa Animal Rescue to help amazing dogs find forever homes. Each week, we will feature a pup who is ready for adoption and eager to join your family.

🐾 Meet Carole, our precious little survivor with a story that’s impossible not to love. She arrived just before Christmas last year after being rescued in Cancún withz along with a friend and her two babies. At the time, Carole was starving and had lost most of her hair—but even then, her gentle spirit shone through. Fast forward to today and just look at her now: healthy, happy, and absolutely adorable in her scruffy loveliness.
Carole is spayed, fully vaccinated, and parasite-free, and she’s grown into a sweet, affectionate little lady who truly enjoys being loved. She’s calm, kind, and would make the perfect companion for someone looking for a loyal, low-key friend to share their days with. If you’re ready to give Carole the loving home she’s been waiting for, please email [email protected] to learn more. She’s already come so far—now all she needs is her forever family. 🐾
💵 Want to help, but can’t adopt? There are plenty of opportunities to support Carole and other pets awaiting their forever home. PAR also needs sponsors and volunteers to help with dog walking and charm school. Find out how you can help!

Trivia Answer: Poinsettia
Known in Mexico as Flor de Nochebuena—literally “Flower of Christmas Eve”—the poinsettia is native to southern Mexico and has been part of seasonal traditions for centuries. The plant became popular in the United States in the 19th century after being introduced by Joel Poinsett, the first U.S. ambassador to Mexico.
Today, it’s impossible to imagine Christmas décor in the U.S. without poinsettias, yet their origins are deeply Mexican. From plazas and mercados to living rooms on both sides of the border, this vibrant red plant is a perfect example of how Mexican culture has quietly shaped holiday traditions far beyond its borders.
